| Cole Fellowship in General Thoracic Surgery |

Aim: To provide intensive training in advanced non-cardiac general thoracic surgery and transplantation for a 12 month period, following a formal cardiothoracic training program.
Location: University of Tennessee Training Program Hospital System, including Methodist University Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital, Memphis.
Program Details: Program will be focused on thoracic oncology procedures, including minimally invasive resections, donor and recipient lung transplant surgery, esophageal procedures, including endoscopic procedures and lung volume reduction surgery. Participation in live multidisciplinary clinics with oncologists and allied specialists, presentation of cases at conferences and clinical research will be expected.
Supervising Physicians:
- F. Hammond Cole, Jr. M.D., Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, University of Tennessee, Memphis
- Mathew Ninan, M.D., Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Thoracic Surgery and Lung Transplantation, University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis
Rotations:
- Three months - Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic. – General Thoracic Surgery and Transplantation. This will include attendance at city wide multidisciplinary clinics in partnership with the University of Tennessee Cancer Institute.
- One month – Visit to out of town Center of Excellence
- One month – V.A. rotation, with time in bronchoscopy and G.I. labs for endoscopic procedures at Methodist University Hospital and Baptist Memorial Hospital
- Three months – Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic and Methodist University Hospital - General Thoracic Surgery and Transplantation
- Four months – General Thoracic Surgery and Transplantation, Cardiovascular Surgery Clinic and V.A Hospital
Academic support:
- Supervising physician support for abstracts and publications. The Fellow is expected to submit two abstracts to major thoracic conferences during the year.
- Research Nurse support will be provided for appropriate instances.
